Plunge No. 46
Plunge No. 46 is larger than it first appears in more ways than one. The staff are quiet yet efficient, the layout makes the café appear small but it is very roomy and can seat a lot of guests while the short menu hides a lot experience with flavours.

Orange, lime and lychee juice
The coffee ($4) blend was weaker than I was hoping for but it was a tasty cup nonetheless. Tea ($4) is also on offer including Egyptian tea with mint and rose or Summer tea with mint, lemon, honey and ginger ($5 each).
The orange, lime and lychee juice was on the special menu. My guest and I mainly ordered it because of the promise of lychee however we could detect none. The orange was freshly squeezed though which is always a plus.

Menamen eggs
The Middle Eastern flavours found among the tea varieties stretch onto the food menu. The menemen (sic) eggs ($17) was a great saucy, savoury, spiced concoction boasting the rich flavours of tomatoes and capsicum with a very small amount of spice from the banana chillies. The soft, herbed toast that accompanied it was a great way to soak it all up. I would have preferred the eggs to have been a bit runnier but I thoroughly enjoyed my dish.

Corn fritters
Probably the largest individual corn fritters ($18) I have come across! While the outside was reasonably crispy, they could have been crispier. This is probably because the batter was quite thick. Loads of corn and seasoning show that the kitchen knows what its doing and the salad was a nice, fresh accompaniment. The sour cream was a fantastic addition as the dish needed the moisture.
The menu with its Turkish influence is constantly being updated with specials so drop in to try what’s new. Other items on the menu include mashed avocado & beetroot on toast with peso oil and dukkah ($15), ricotta hotcakes with strawberries, honeycomb & maple syrup ($17), pea pancakes with avocado, feta, red onions & poached egg ($18) and paterma & scrambled eggs with snow pea tendrils on toast ($18).
As you can see, a lot of the dishes are vegetarian however sucuk sausage and bacon ($4 each) are available as sides.
