Bloodhound Espresso, Darlinghurst – Rating: 23.5/25 (re-review)

One of my favourite cafés needs no introduction.  Readers will be happy to know that things have progressed and somehow improved at Bloodhound Espresso since my last review.  Not only is Matt Cauhi taking on full ownership of the establishment but his original chef Brenton Osbourne has returned with his own menu and an expansion of the business is planned.

This all equates to a lot of hard work and passion required but Matt has these in spades and I’m looking forward to coverage of the new menu shortly.  In the meantime though, I dropped in for a quick bite…

Sourcing from a single plantation allows fantastic control of the flavour of your coffee so it’s certainly not by chance that the cups at BE are incredible.  The coffee is outstanding to the point where I actually haven’t tried any of the other beverages!

BAE roll

Speaking of not trying other things, the BAE roll ($10) is without doubt still the best bacon and egg roll that I’ve tasted and it’s my must-have for every visit (as well as trying other things of course)!  Be sure to add avocado ($3) and a hash brown ($2) because it all definitely works.  The aioli and Casundi relish smother everything into a lightly spiced, creamy wonderland of flavour and the bountiful bacon is stupidly good.

Mojo brekky bowl

The mojo brekky bowl ($16) has a little taste of everything in a superb vegetarian bowl that will have the neighbouring tables asking for “what she’s having”.  You have patatas bravas with beautifully caramelised potatoes, seasoned smashed avocado, a mixed grain salad, a crunchy cabbage & herb slaw and mojo verde sauce.  No flavours are too over the top and each element is dressed perfectly.

There’s little point in covering other items on the menu seeing as it is just changing so drop in to see what Bloodhound Espresso has in store.
