For such a high scoring café, one year is way too long for a re-review! So with fond memories of speedy service and flavoursome dishes on my mind, I grabbed a friend and headed back to Bus Stop Café!
While the service crew is missing the friendly sparkle of Dylan Cartwright (who is now pursuing his music career), this is one category that still scores five stars due to the personable characters who you’ll meet at BSC. The café is relentlessly busy but any wait that you experience will most likely be very short.
The menus has received a refresh but the most popular items remain!
The coffee being served is still fantastic thanks to a dark and flavoursome Little Marionette blend. Mine lasted seconds!
The smoothies are offered with ice cream or yoghurt. My guest had the mango with ice cream while I had the strawberry with yoghurt. We both preferred mine because the flavours were stronger but also because the texture was smoother and more consistent. Both excellent examples though so you’ll be happy with either!
I’m a sucker for a quality BLAT and will always request it become a BLEAT by adding an egg. BSC was happy to make this happen and the result was a toasted roll with a plethora of delicious components within! The side of crisps was a first (and not really necessary). I didn’t expect it to but the roll held together well. Each ingredient played its part and overall I loved this breakfast. The bacon was thick and very smokey. The egg was cooked through so I’d ask for it to have a runny yolk next time but other than that, this was one of the better BLEATs that I’ve had.
I was very jealous of my guest’s cornfritters though! The fritters are as good as I remember from last time; crunchy but fluffy inside and seasoned well. My guest added some house-made baked beans and they were much better than other examples that I’ve tried and it’s all due to the seasoning. When it comes to sauces and spices, BSC knows their business! The tomato chilli jam is quite sweet but for me the clear winner is their chimichurri with its chunky herb and spice mix. If you’re observant when you visit, you may even spot the recipe!
Bus Stop Café hardly do a thing wrong in my book. My only criticism could be that it’s quite a confined and close quarters location but all of the clientele appear so friendly that I don’t mind being close to my breakfast neighbours. The service is spot on, the beverage menu is comprehensive and the food menu has just been updated so be sure to drop in!
