Baffi & Mo Espresso, Redfern – Rating: 18.5/25 (re-review 2)

Baffi & Mo Espresso

Baffi & Mo Espresso

Baffi & Mo was previously reviewed in 2010 and 2012.  The interior has been changed slightly (tables on the left as you walk in have been replaced by an area dedicated to the barista) but the food is still on par with previous visits.  The wait staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, meeting our special requests and ensuring that we all left with smiles on our faces.

Strong cups and bold flavours from the coffee at B&M.  Both my guests and I were very impressed by our coffees ($3.50).  The large range of tea available such  as Earl Grey, Good Morning, heal (organic lemongrass, calendula petals, mint and fennel seeds), jasmine eyes organic green and chamomile organic ($4.20 per pot) as well as the milkshakes ($5.50)juices ($6) and smoothies ($6) mean that there is a beverage available to suit everyone.

Baffi's big breakfast

Baffi’s big breakfast

Butter packages for scale!  The serving size of Baffi’s big breakfast ($26) is enough to ensure that everyone in the café looks at your table when it arrives!  Eggs done any way (my guest chose scrambled and they were served with chives which is my favourite egg condiment), two sausages, bacon, corn fritters, spinach (substituted for the usual grilled tomato), two large potato hash toast.  The hash is very crispy because each strand of the potato has had a chance to crisp up and although the inside was fluffy, I have to say that I prefer the more traditional hash brown style with the prominent soft potato interior.  Otherwise, between my guests and myself, we managed to finish this plate and enjoyed all of it!

Fried eggs

Scrambled eggs, poached eggs or fried eggs ($10) are served with sourdough toast and you can then compliment them with sides such as bacon, spiced sausage, mushrooms, feta, avocado, grilled tomato, spinach ($3.50 each), wagyu beans (which are meat, not beans!), ricotta ($4 each) and more!

Eggs Benedict

Eggs Benedict

My eggs Benedict ($14.50) was served as one would expect but it presented quite well.  Toasted English muffin below and plenty of ham (although I would have preferred something a bit more special like thick-cut).  The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was warm and rich but just missing that slight tang.  The chives on top are a great addition – as mentioned before they work so well with eggs.

Once again, Baffi & Mo has satisfied (and made some new customers in the form of my guests at the same time)!  There’s something for everyone here and you can be sure that you’ll be well taken care of during your visit.

  1. Great review. Baffi & Mo are generally pretty steady with service and food. A definite local fave of ours. With a couple of new joints opening on the street it’ll be interesting how they fare. Good I hope.

  2. Love this place. Do not miss the hummingbird cake.
And another nod to the service. My partner is allergic to onions (including chives and shallots). When his eggs unexpectedly came with chives the first time we ordered, they remade the whole dish without hesitation.
