It has only been a few weeks since I first reviewed Pinbone so this will simply be a quick re-review. I was simply desperate to taste the bacon, maple, pumpkin tart again!
Breakfast is only served on Sundays and in order to beat the queue, I suggest that you arrive before 10am. Berri Eggbert at the front of house along with her team of exceptionally friendly and professional staff once again started the morning off exceptionally well and the quality never slipped. You can be confident that you will receive only the best service at Pinbone.
The coffee ($3.50) was once again superb. With robust and unmistakable flavours, you’ll find yourself going back for more cups than you originally intended!
The bacon butty ($10) as any British reader could tell you, is simply a bacon sandwich. For any bacon junkies (or let’s be honest, we all know some vegetarians who enjoy some bacon here and there!) it is a great choice with a whole stack of bacon on some quality toasted white bread with tomato or smoky barbecue sauce.
Speaking of bacon overload, this tart is covered with it! Presenting once again the bacon, maple, pumpkin tart ($12) which is served with some well-selected green leaves on the side. Beneath the crunchy and chewy maple bacon layer you will find soft pumpkin which combines exceptionally well. The base of the tart is thin and very flaky. I went back for this dish and I’ll do it again.
The mark of an exceptional breakfast café must surely be being able to take a bacon and egg roll and turning it into an outstanding dish. Pinbone obviously knows the formula as is evident by their bacon egg roll ($10) which once again came towering high with a ridiculous serving of bacon! The fried egg was cooked just enough to that it didn’t explode and run everywhere. You may look at the photo and disagree but I can guarantee you that I ate this with my hands and they were completely clean afterwards! The smoky barbecue sauce is slightly on the sweet side but makes for a deserving condiment to this exquisite roll.
As usual, there was a wide selection of sweet tarts, cakes and pastries but you’ll need to visit yourself to experience delights such as the blueberry frangipane tart ($8), carrot cake ($4) or chocolate cookies with baked cheesecake filling ($4).
