The Purple Moose, Alexandria – Rating: 19/25

The Purple Moose seemed much smaller upon arrival in the rain than it did after.  This is mainly due to the fact that the interior only has room for a bench against the window with a few low, small tables and stools.  Once the clouds cleared though, the windows behind the bench were opened, people started to sit outside and I then discovered the row of tables in the alley around the corner!

Despite it’s small size, I can guarantee that you will feel welcome and at-home as soon as you enter.  Ordering and payment is all done at the counter but it’s not as though you have far to walk!

Coffee Alchemy struts its stuff with cups of ridiculously good coffee ($3.50).  You can even buy bags of beans to use at home.  The single origin was excellent and I would order this next time as opposed to the house blend.

With such a small kitchen, TPM can be forgiven for their limited menu.  They offer jaffles ($6.50) with speed and efficiency though, all wrapped in melted cheesy goodness.  Ham, cheese & tomato, Vegemite, avocado & cheese, spaghetti & cheese or Nutella and hundreds & thousands!

For the eggs on toast ($9), you have the choice of scrambled or soft boiled.  The soft boiled eggs were slightly on the cool side but they thanks to a sprinkling of dukkah and hot toast with melting butter, everything combined well.  Overall, nicely presented with fresh ingredients and good seasoning.

The cronuts ($5) are available with cinnamon or glazed toppings and simply melted in our mouths.  The insides were airy and soft as a croissant should be but with the doughnut exterior that we all know and love.

Taking the time to get to know your customers is one of the most important elements of a successful breakfast spot.  The Purple Moose has this covered!  Whether you’re on the run or staying for an indulgent hot or cold beverage, I was pleasantly surprised by TPM.
