The Fern, Redfern – Rating: 22/25 (re-review 2)

Just a quick re-review of The Fern in Redfern (previous reviews here and here) seeing as I stopped in for brunch with a friend.  The service and food is consistently outstanding here.  I now have been there for dinner and I can offer you nothing but rave reports for that as well!

The Gravity coffee ($3.50) was stupendous as usual.  We finished our cups in record time!

There is probably no need to show you the banana and honey smoothie ($8) again but it was too tasty to not order.

As I have previously mentioned, trying burgers is a favourite pastime of mine.  After trying the Thunder Cat ($17) I can tell you that The Fern’s burgers are a must try.  From top to bottom mine was simply outstanding – fresh greens including a slightly spicy pickled capsicum, melted cheese with substance & flavour, an incredibly juicy patty that would have stood out on its own and a combination of two sauces (tomato and pink) that blew me away.  Not much more to say!

Two of the other burger varieties to sink your teeth into include Dingo ate my burger (beef, beetroot, goats cheese and avocado, $17) and the Nacho Libre (beef, avocado, spicy salsa, cheese and tomato, $17).

Changing slightly with the season, The Fern Salad ($13) features pumpkin, apple, goats cheese, walnuts and tomato.  The dressing (which we requested on the side) is not too heavy and doesn’t overpower any of the other flavours.  I would have preferred a bit more of the feature ingredients compared to the lettuce.  We requested a bit extra goats cheese and that was on the house!

A cosy atmosphere inside and out, an accomplished lunch and dinner menu and a bar that churns out incredible cocktails (as well as cocktail classes now and then).  Stop reading and go!
