Mammamia is a chain of about 10 cafes throughout Denmark. The one I visited is situated on the top floor of Fields shopping centre in Copenhagen. The menu comprised mainly of salads and sandwiches with your choice of main fillings/ingredients but branched out to items such as pizzas and croissants.
Fillings for the salads and sandwiches included chicken & bacon, tuna salad (a mayonnaise and tuna mix with some vegetables such as corn and tomato), prosciutto, chicken & jalapenos, smoked salmon and chorizo.
I chose chicken & bacon on ciabatta which was made after we ordered and came towering high with the main ingredients amongst a bed of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a creamy mayonnaise. The bacon in Denmark (usually sourced from Germany) is vastly different to that of Australia. It crisps faster and is much more flavorsome. The ciabatta roll was soft with a slightly crispy crust and all ingredients fresh. All-in-all a filling and very satisfying lunch.
My girlfriend (boringly) also chose the chicken & bacon as the toppings for her pasta salad. Beneath the lettuce and other salad ingredients, the pasta was tossed with olives and a delicious tomato and chilli sauce.
My star of the visit however was a strawberry smoothie (with fresh strawberries and strawberry yoghurt).
The strawberry smoothie is one of my constants at Sydney cafes… I find it hard to resist ordering when I am out and I can honestly say this was the best one I have ever had. Despite it’s thickness I just wanted more and more and more. I will be going back for a take-away one for sure!
